The Extra Aircraft 500 Spirit Turboprop was designed by Walter Extra who has been designing strong light weight carbon fiber aerobatic aircraft for many years.
The new light weight Extra Aircraft 500 Spirit Turboprop is powered by the highly dependable Rolls Royce M250 B17F/2 turbine engine that produces 450 hp and weighs only 210 pounds. The total weight of the Extra 500 is an incredibly low 3100 pounds, this is over 300 pounds less the nearest competitor and very impressive as the Extra 500’s cabin is nearly twenty percent larger. The Extra 500’s strength is confirmed by a Vne of 219 knots and an aircraft life limit of 20,000 hours. The Vne is 30 knots higher than the competition and the life limit is almost twice as long.
